CHAIN GANG

“Believe it or not, the first ever CD ROM catalog of an art exhibition is of a metalsmith show. A must for art or jewelry connoisseurs, this unique catalog documents the exhibit “Chain Gang” in which 141 jewelry artists combined their talents in 85 feet of chain. Each artist was invited to create one single link of chain with size being the only restriction 3” to 9” across. They let their imaginations run wild with materials and techniques we don’t often see together in one show. Ranging from rubber, bone, tin cans, crocheting, and sewing to steel, silver. pearls, elecroforming, casting, and enameling.

“Chain Gang” was curated by Linda Hesh and Eric Margry for the SNAG 1 996 conference. They wanted to highlight the exciting work being done by jewelry artists across the country- some of whom have never shown in a gallery before. American Craft Magazine featured a 2 page color spread on “Chain Gang” (Aug/Sept 1 996). Metalsmith will have a review in February, and as it travels around the country, local art reviewers are giving it raves in such newspapers as the Washington Post. Now is your chance to see what all the excitement is about.”
